I'm looking for information on my 2nd great grandmother. This is the information that I have (some of which has not been verified). Her name was Bridget Delia Snee, she was born in County Mayo in 1845 to James Snee and his wife Maragret. James brought his children (Bridget, James, Patrick, Ann and Mary) to the United States in the late 1860's, where they all spent the rest of their lives.

I'm trying to find any information on where they were from and more about her parents (I have nothing on them other than their names).

Any help at all would be appreciated

Pete

    Hello again!

Based on 1855 Griffiths Valuation data, it is very likely that your Snees came from either Kilmovee or Aghamore civil parishes in East Mayo. However, the RC parish baptismal records for those two parishes start late (1854 for Kilmovee and 1864 for Aghamore) so when I searched on the subscription site Roots Ireland, I got no records.

I would lean towards Aghamore parish based on the one Griffiths Valuation record located for a James Snee. No guarantee that this is your James because maybe he was a very small farmer who would not be listed in the Griffiths.

My grandmother was Katherine Snee.  Her father was Michael Snee, son of Martin Snee and Ellen Burke.  I was always told they were from County Mayo.  They left during the Fwmine and went to Hull and from there to NYC.  I know some stayed in Ireland.

  • Hello,

My grandmother Mary McCormack was born in Manhattan, New York, in September 1918 to Irish parents Patrick McCormack and Delia McCormack (maiden name Snee). I believe she was their 3rd child and when she was an infant (approx 2 years of age) the family returned to Co. Mayo. When she was in her late teens/early 20's she came live in the North West of England where she met my Grandfather (also of Irish heritage) and the rest is history so to speak!

Any information on my grandmother or her parents/grandparents would be very much appreciated. Thanks.
