I am trying to find any information I can on John's sons.

Here is the family profile

JOHN O'DONNELL was born on 01 Aug 1866 in  Turkenagh, Kilkeedy, Inchiquin, Clare, Ireland. He died on 29 Mar 1952 in Camus Longford, Portumna, Galway, Ireland. He married BRIDGET EARLY. She was born on 10 Oct 1876 in Muckanagh, Portumna, Galway, Ireland. She died on 22 Aug 1923 in Central Hospital Galway City, Galway, Ireland.
John O'Donnell and Bridget Early had the following children:

i.
THOMAS PATRICK2 O DONNELL was born on 13 Mar 1903 in Camas, Longford, Meelick, Portumna, Galway, Ireland.

ii.
MICHAEL JOSEPH O DONNELL was born on 03 Aug 1904 in Camas, Longford, Meelick, Portumna, Galway, Ireland.

iii.
MARY KATE O DONNELL was born about 1907.

iv.
JOHN ANTHONY O'DONNELL was born on 11 Feb 1907 in Camas, Longford, Meelick, Portumna, Galway, Ireland.

v.
JAMES GERALD O DONNELL was born on 13 Jul 1909 in Camas, Longford, Meelick, Portumna, Galway, Ireland.

vi.
BRIDGET FRANCES O'DONNELL was born on 25 Nov 1911 in Camas, Longford, Meelick, Portumna, Galway, Ireland. She died on 08 Feb 1912 in Camas, Longford, Meelick, Portumna, Galway, Ireland.

vii.
OWEN AMBROSE O'DONNELL was born on 10 Sep 1915 in Camas, Longford, Meelick, Portumna, Galway, Ireland.

viii.
CHARLIE O'DONNELL was born on 22 Mar 1906 in Camas, Longford, Meelick, Portumna, Galway, Ireland. He died on 23 Mar 1906 in Camas, Longford, Meelick, Portumna, Galway, Ireland.

Charlie died in his infancy so there would not be anything further on him.

There are indications that at least one of John's sons was in England during World War II. Unfortunately I do not know which of the sons it might have been, I believe that James Gerard my have been present at his father's death in 1952. Due to the 100 year rule I am just unable to find and information about the O'Donnell boy after the birth of Owen Ambrose in 1915.

Any information would be most helpful, since I can not determine if they remained near Camus, left the area or even immigrated.

I do know from the 1911 Census that John's in-laws lived with him and Bridget which would indicate that the house had to be larger than most in the area. It is marked as house # 7 in the 1911 Census of Camus.

  • Hello Col,

Thank you for Mary's Baptism record.

Possible death for John is not correct he died in 1952

Possible death records for James & Owen:are incorrect James was born in 1909 so he was not born in 1900 and Owen is O'Donnell not McDonnell and was born in 1915 so he could not have died in 1886

The Marriage record was most helpful It indicated that John was previously married and I found the death of his first wife in 1901. I also found other shildren from other marriages in the 1901 Census

Now here they are in the 1901 Census.

I already had John and Bridget's birth information but thank you for confirming this.

However we did not get to the issue at hand the whereabouts of Johns sons after April 1st 1911 or their birthday

  • Hi again Fred,

I searched ancestry & Family Search for the lads but to no avail I'm afraid.

Also tried cd Memorials of the Dead Galway & Mayo but all records are too early.

I don't know which sources you have trie but here are a couple of suggestions:

The Ellis Island site is free & has emigration records

This  www.ukcensusonline.com requires a monthly payment but has the UK Census of 1921
