Hello - Several of my ancestors (Hutchinson, Gubbins) from Limerick are from St. Mary's parish and also St. Michael's.  I'm still new to easily differentiating between the civil and Catholic parishes, but since St. Michael's is not listed on this site would I just consider my family to be from St. Mary's parish?  Since the two are so close, would it be common for families to move between parishes throughout the years?

Thank you for the help and clarification!

  • Hi Chris!

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

We should have a page for St. Michael's. I will contact our HQ to ask them to add the parish page. St. Michael's and St. Mary's are both civil parishes and RC parishes.

  • Oh wow thank you so much for this information!  I believe Mary and James are siblings of my 2nd great-grandparents (Michael Hutchinson and Johanna Gubbins)!  I had seen a marriage announcement for the two of them in the past, but there wasn't information on their parents or their age.  I assumed it must have been another family/cousins assuming a marriage at their age might not have been too common for the time.  This has helped me make another connection on my family tree.  Very much appreciate it!
