I am researching my husband's family tree and wondered if anyone could advise me of how I can find out the date of birth and parent information for his maternal great grandmother, Mary Ann Sullivan.  Census records in England show her being born in 1861 in Muckross, Ireland.

Any information at all would be greatly appreciated.

    Civil registration of births did not begin in Ireland until 1864. www.irishgenealogy.ie has a good number of baptismal records for Co. Cork but I don't see the Killarney records in that file which is where I would expect someone from Muckross. You could try St, Marys in Killarney to see if they can help you.

    I went back and adjusted my search and did find three 1861 baptisms in Killarney for a Mary Sullivan. They are below. The name is so common that without knowing the names of the parents, it will be difficult to confirm whether any of these are your husbands relations.

    Thank you very much for replying so quickly and with three records! Like you say, it is going to be difficult to establish which is the correct one and sadly I don't know the parents names.

    I did find a Sullivan family on the 1871 English census which shows the parents as John and Catherine Sullivan, both born in Ireland with four of their children born in Kent, England and Mary Ann Sullivan born in Muckross, Ireland. Again, nothing that really confirms that this is the correct family.

    It may be worth me contacting St Mary's in Kilarney as well, so thank you for their contact details.
