I am trying to trace all family and descendents of my great-grandparents from Woodford, who were John Mitchell ( Born ABT 1831) and his wife Susane or Anne Kennedy, who had three children, the first, James Edward Mitchell (my grandfather) born 22/4/1872, died in Ballina, Co. Mayo 30/5/1928; the second, Sarah Mitchell born ABT 1873; and the third, Laurence Mitchell, born ABT 1875.

I have a very detailed family tree from my grandfather down, but other than the above, no information going back from John and Susane or Anne.

I would appreciate any help any of your subscribers can give me.

  • My grandfather, James Edward Mitchell of Woodford initially worked in Dublin as a comerrcial traveller for Grierson, Oldham & Adams, Wine Merchants. He married Teresa Gillespie of Ballina, Co. Mayo and developed a business there, James E. Mitchell & Co. Ltd.,  King Street and Bury Street, Ballina. They had three daughters, Monica (m. O'Dowd), Catherine(Renee) m. Sherry) and Winifred(Freddie) (m. Corcoran).

I am trying to trace his siblings, antecedents and other descendents on the Mitchell side.

  • Hi Mr Corcoran

I am Therese Cunningham, the new Parish Administrator for Woodford parish.

    I googled "htto://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/galway/ballynakill.php".

There were two John Mitchells listed in Griffiths Valuation, one in the townsland of Oghilly and the other in the townsland of Clonco.

I then went to another link in Griffiths Valuation ,subtitled "Ask about Ireland".

This shows the original document itself.

On it I could find John Mitchell listed for Oghilly but couldn't find Clonco at all.

Hope this is of some help.

Feel free to ask for more help any time.

    Kind regards

    Therese
