Trying to find information on my father's side of the family. He told us his Great Grandfather was from Ireland and his name was Poutan (not sure of spelling but pronounced Pow tan)
The only record close to the name is a marriage record of a Rebecca POUGAN in county Fermanagh 1853. Poutan is more common in England and from French origin saying that it could have been a huguenot family who came to Ireland
