Hello to whomever it may concern,

I am curious about my family's history, and where in Ireland they are from. I am a product of Cunninghams and Taylors, I don't even know when they moved, but they moved to the United States. I believe the Taylors moved to Florida then moved on to Tennessee sometime later. As for the Cunninghams I have no idea, I just know we lived in Utah for a long time.

Thank You,

Ambrosia

    Hello Ambrosia,

As I am sure you can appreciate there are thousand and thousands of families of Taylors and Cunninghams.  In order for any of the volunteers to help you, you will have to do some detective work over there.  You will have to go back through marriage , birth and death certificates to find out as much as you can about your family.

Once you have spoken to all your elder relatives and traced back who exactly arrived in the states and a time frame, only then can we take up the search here.  Much better records were kept in America, England and Australia than Ireland.  Well actually, we kept fantastic records as well but most civil records and census were destroyed in the civil war in 1922. What we would be looking at here is baptismal records.  Catholic records started approx 1825 or so (some parishes a little earlier and a few a bit later)  Protestant records generally started around 1790's or so.

So You have a bit of detective work to do, but it is so exciting when you get a thread and start to unravel the family.

Start with your parents marriage record and work back from that.

    Happy hunting,

    Anne
