  • Hi Norma

I'm afraid I've tried to find Richard, Edward & Ellen with no luck.

    The sites I visited were www.rootsireland.ie/, www.irishgenealogy.ie/, ancestry.com & the Irish censuses of 1901 & 1911

The only possible record is on the second site which has a baptism of Edward Herbert Emos Douglas in 1898 address is 21 Parnell St & parish is Dublin RC RATHMINES http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/details/05706e0028…

  • I had a search also, and didn't find anything promising either..

Just wondering about your mention of his father possibly being a butcher - is the detail included on Richard's birth cert ?

The couple don't seem to have married in Ireland, maybe they never married - or could they have married in England ?

Have you already traced Ellen after Richard's birth - did she stay in Ireland ?

  • There is an Edward Douglas death showing in Dublin city which might be worth checking into since the story passed down mention him dying young. The residence, occupation or informant on the cert might provide clues to rule him in or out as 'your' Edward..

    Name Edward Douglas
    Event Type Death
Registration Quarter and Year Jul-Sep 1926
    Registration District Dublin South
Reported Age 45 (est. year of birth 1881)
    Volume 2 Page 359

There are two Edward Douglas on the 1939 Dublin city voters register, the first at Seville place, I think might be that butcher at Dufferin Avenue (Merchant's Quay is the Electoral District) in 1911, as his wife is Elizabeth - so possibly so still married, and alive then... There is another Edward Douglas shown in Dublin 1911 who I think is the one that later appears in Moyne Road in 1939 with his wife Clara. This Edward is single in 1911 and some sort of commercial traveller. He died in Jan 1955. Moyne Rd. is only a couple of hundred meters from Chelmsford Rd. (both are in Ranelagh, but not far from Rathmines).
