Alexander Downing, born in Ballymullan, Lisburn Ireland on Dec. 31, 1886. Died in North Vancouver, B.C. Canada, on Jan. 8, 1949. He had a 'Masonic' service by Hollyburn Lodge No.135, A.F.+ A.M. of which he was a member. His place of birth is also known as Hill Hall. May be Ulster/Antrim?   Alexander married Gladys Ewart Menzies in 1916. She was Scottish, born in Jordan Hill, Glasgow, Scotland.

Alexander had 2 sons, James + Raymond. Raymond Menzies Downing was my father. I am Alexanders grandson, Brian Alexander Downing, currently living in B.C. Canada. Any and all further history and information that can be shared would be greatly appreciated!

    The Downing family lived in Co. Down. The 1901 and 1911 census records for the family are below.

    I also looked for a marriage index record for a John Downing married to a Rebecca. The 1911 census indicated they were married around 1870. I found this index record in the Belfast registration district which possibly could be for your great-grandparents. You would have to write to the GRO www.groireland.ie  to get a copy of the record.
