hello can anyone help iam trying to work out my mothers tree and from Ancestory it seems to go like this : her grandfather was James Croake born 1895 Marylebone UK died sadly at Flanders :-( all the people he lived with on the uk census 1901 all show up in Waterford in the later census 1911 so I presume they moved back to Ireland they are his father William age 38 and mother Mary age 39 with John 10 Johanna16  William 12 Mary 11 Maggie 8 and James 6 in UK in 1901 and at the moment I can not find the exact names and ages but they turned up on the Irish census without James and I think now living with a older William possibly

next is a bit confusing James father was prob William Croake born 1863 in Marylebone married to Mary Ann Polly Herlihy also born around 1863 Marylebone but it looks like she married twice ? to brothers so its possible his father was Williams older brother John. But at least they are in the same family for research purposes ! I think her parents are John Hierlehy born 1831 Limerick and Johanna Connell from Cork born 1830.

I think William and Johns father is a William Croake born 1827  from someone else's research and it's possible he married Hannah Johanna Ann Powell born 1829-1887

and his father was possibly Thomas Croak 1779-1866 married Catherine Evans

If anyone can shed a light as to any truths or flaws or any info they might have on this family at all I would be so very grateful Sometimes I see Croke and Croak in other sites its taken forever to get this far ! but I think I sort of on the right track.

  • Ahh yes that James is my mothers grandfather who was killed in WW1 . Thank you for forwarding this. Somewhere I do have the rest of this family as being altogether in Waterford. I thought in 1911.

I wondered if I could find some family members going forward they might know more about the family history and tell me if I am on the right tracks.... very new to this !
