  • 3 McCollum farms in Corkey North in the tithes for 1832. Catherine is likely to be a widow:

Loughguile RC baptism & marriages start in 1845. RC records are mostly on-line on the nli site:

    https://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx

It will be difficult to find births prior to 1845 due to the lack of records.

Griffiths Valuation for 1861 shows Alexander & John McCollum farming together in Corkey North. Some land was shared with the McBride family. There was an Edward McAleese farming there too.

This looks to be John’s father’s death in Corkey in 1890:

A Jane McCollum was the informant. She was his daughter and was also the informant for his wife Mary’s death:

I would guess that these families may be connected to yours in some way. The brides were both McBrides. Probably sisters. Alexander’s father was Alexander. Can’t find a marriage for James & Esther, so don’t know his father’s name.

What date did burials start in the current RC church in Loughguile?
    Thank you

  • There are about 8 or 9 McCollum gravestones in Loughguile RC graveyard. Not all appear to relate to the Corkey family. Some don't mention a townland so it’s hard to say who they are without more research. I have no idea of the date of the oldest burials there. That isn’t something recorded in the information I have. The church appears to date to 1851 so possibly the graveyard opened then too.

One grave specifically mentions Corkey and tells you that Alexander & James were brothers. Since their father was another Alexander, it’s not your immediate line. Possibly cousins to your family.

There is also a graveyard called Loughguile Old which might contain your family, prior to 1850 anyway. I don’t have access to any transcriptions for it. There are innumerable small ancient cemeteries throughout the Parish and can be found in the following townlands – Monehneagh, Culbane, Kilwee, Ballyknock Little, Carrivcashel, Corkey, North Knockavrinnan, Pharis, Ballytaggart, Ballybraddan and Castlequarter.
