Seeking info on great grandparents

It?ll be tricky tracing these families for certain. RC marriages weren?t entered into the statutory registers till 1864. Prior to that all you have to rely on are the RC church records which tend to have very limited information ie the couples names, the date and their 2 witnesses. So no parents names, addresses etc.

There are a couple of gravestones in Aughnahoy RC graveyard, Portglenone, that might relate to your family. Each gravestone is listed under O?Hara and Rainey, both of which are names in your family. Aughnahoy is just a few miles from Ahoghill.

If there?s a connection, the ages might make John O?Hara and Patrick William O?Hara brothers.

I?d say that the townland on Patrick?s marriage certificate has been mistranscribed and the correct version is Carmacmoin. That?s on the southern edge of Ahoghill. Modern Church St runs along the northern edge of it.

I looked in Griffiths for 1862 to see if there were any O?Haras listed but there are not. However given that the family appear to have been agricultural labourers and weavers, that?s not too surprising. Not all ag labs cabins were listed. (There was a Houston family listed and I note that one of the witnesses was a Sarah Huston).
