It would appear my great-great grandfather, Henry McCurrie, was born in Northern Ireland - possibly in Antrim in 1815-1818.his family returned to Scotland when he was young. At the age of 17 he was convicted of stealiing in Glascow and transported to New South Wales (now Australia). Were their many Mc Curries living in Northern island in the 1800's I am following up on a lead that his sister was also transported?

  • Henry apparently had three sisters Mary, Maggie and June. June was also known as Jane. She was apparently born in Antrim in 1820 to George and Martha Mc Currie. Similar to Henry she was living in Lanarkshire, Scotland when she was arrested and transported to Tasmania. She has a son named George. The names of Henry's children are George (b&d 1843) twin Henry, George born 1844, Martha, Edward & William James. (found the infomation on June/Jane today.)

At his trial Henry apparently told the judge he was born in Northern Ireland.

What are the chances that June/Jane and my Henry McCurrie are brother and sister?

Sorry about the spellng mistakes in my last post.

  • Thanks for your help -  A google search for Jean Mccurrie turned up a surprising result an extraxt from the story of convict Henry Woods - The Old Man of The Mountain - in which it gives a brief history of his wife Jane/June Woods (nee Mc currie). In it a claim is made that she had two brother's who were also transported Henry, my great great grandfather and John. I have not found his name on convict lists. I will try to contact the author of this piece of writing to check the information she has been given.
