Hoping to find my elusive Robert Mains & his parents.
Robert was born 1820/22 in Antrim, or possibly Down.
Rbt marr Mary Jane MARTIN in Newburn NBL in 1843, residence given as Lemington NBL. Father John Mains, a weaver.
Only England census he appears on is 1851 - born Ireland. Then he disappears!
Possibly could be the same & one Robert who ended up in Liverpool 1859, married a Margaret JONES (Irish) as a widower, & died in the workhouse. 1861/71 born Ireland. 1881 born Antrim. Father - "Smith Mains", a farmer.
Unfortunately that is all I have to go on - not much at all I'm afraid, and probably not enough to start researching records with! BUT ........... I am not giving up & will plod on in the hope that one day ....... who knows?

Apologies for the long delay in getting back to you. I haven't managed to locate baptism records for children of John in Northern Ireland with any great certainty. Have you had a look on Find My Past to see if the weaver connection is helpful in any of their commercial directories and might narrow things down?

Hi Clare,
I've been trawling Find My Past but as yet haven't come across anything significant. Shall keep at it, but finding it hard with so many John MAINS' and none of them a weaver at this stage.
