  • Hi,

There are several sites that might be able to help in your search, but key to your search is understanding the various records date ranges and where which records are kept.

If you can pin down his month date of birth as well as the exact year, the guides at the sites I post will help direct your efforts.

I do not know if he stayed in scotland or not, but the archives in scotland should contain him and family in their censuses from 1851 onward.  http://www.irish-genealogy-toolkit.com/Irish-immigration-to-Scotland.html has a very useful article on Scotland immigrants from ireland.

Family search can also be very helpful https://familysearch.org/search

Presbyterian Historical Scoiety also should be of a help in a possible baptism record. http://www.presbyterianhistoryireland.com/index.php?id=39

Once you get basic data, posssible parents, direct location, DOB, then the guides will help yuo further.

You might even find the free aspects of the following site useful.

  • Hi, Your quite welcome!

Becasue of the split in countries, trying to gather a little more data from the Scotland aspect, will perhaps give you a bit more to work with in Ireland.

This site has a lot of updated information on the Scotland end. http://www.genealogyintime.com/GenealogyResources/Country/Scotland/most_recent_genealogy_records_Scotland.html

The link I mentioned before can hel on the Ireland end if you go under the surname search and on the ledt side menu "map" the name for map plotting. It's pretty informative itself.

    Best of Luck! Jeanette
