I am searching for any information on Robert Cunningham born about 1831 in Ireland.  He married Ann Jane Underwood about 1849.  They emmigrated to Canada and were on the 1851 Canadian Census in Perth County Ontario and continue in that area through the 1891 Census.  I have lost track after that and cannot find any death records in Canada.  I did find a Robert James Cunningham and Ann Jane Cunningham in the 1911 Irish Census at Morpeth Street, Wood Vale Ward, Antrim that I think may be them.  No death records there.

  • According to the 1911 census, the couple in Morpeth St married 34 years previously (ie c 1876). So that doesn’t fit with your couple who married in the late 1840s. The 1911 census couple appear to be Robert C & Ann Jane Finley who married in Belfast on 25.11.1876.

Statutory marriage registration started in Ireland in April 1845 (save for RC marriages). I searched the records for Robert and Anne Jane Underwood but could not find any marriage for them.

  • Yes that's true about the 1911 Census, so that does rule them out.  Thanks for all your checking.  Will keep looking, something is bound to come up!

  • If they didn't marry in Ireland, then I'd search Canadian records for wherever they set up home.
