I'm looking for information on my ancestor John Clark who was born about 1717 in Larne. He had a son William born around 1745 who later immigrated to the U.S. Thanks in advance for anything you might know.

  • Dwight,

You don?t say what denomination the family were.  If they were Presbyterian then there?s a chance you might find the 1745 baptisms in the local church records. Larne Non Subscribing Presbyterian church has baptism records from 1720 onwards. Unfortunately they don?t appear to be on-line anywhere. However there is a copy in PRONI (the public record office) in Belfast. A personal visit is generally required to access their records though.

Otherwise no other denominations records exist for Larne in the 1700s and very few other land or similar records for the 1700s, and so tracing the family (if they are not in the NSP records) may be very tricky.

Thanks very much for your reply.  I don't know their denomination which, as you pointed out, complicates the research.  I'm contemplating a trip to Ireland and will take your advice regarding the archives in Belfast in the event of such a trip.

I'm trying to find additional details about William in the states which may help as well.

    Thanks again
