John Byrne born April 18, 1857, at Kinnego, County Armagh; and Salenia Grace Whitfield born June9, 1854, at Richhill, County Armagh. Married on September 15, 1877., in New York City, New York, USA, at a Quaker Church. They had two children, then both parents died. Rebecca DuMarthry, Mrs. Rudolph, raised the two young daughters.  Seeking information on either family in Ireland, as well as the connection to the DuMartry family. Thanks, Sue

  • Hi

Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.

Remember to post as much information as you can with regard to the people you are researching. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you.

Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.

Please make sure you link anyone else in your family who is interested in their Irish heritage to our site - and indeed anyone else you know of Irish heritage.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi

I think that I can help a little bit with your search, and I hope that I set you in the correct direction. I at least can give you some clues to work with.

In my tree I have Mary Douglas (daughter of Moses Douglas of Kinnego). She was born 7 November 1831. She married  George Byrne (s) of Kinnego and his father was John Byrnes of Kinnego. George was born about  1822, likely at Kinnego. George married 1st, Mary McCann who was born about 1830 and died before 1857.

He then married Mary Douglas 22 April 1857,  and later died 1877

I do not have birth records to verify the following, but the Griffiths records show George Burns Sr with the following names:

    George Burns (Byrne(s)) jr

    Thomas Burns (Byrne(s))

    William Burns (Byrne(s))

My assumption is that these three are his sons, but I do not have birth dates etc. Even though a John Byrnes is not mentioned, does not mean that your John was not a son (Griffiths was done 1864).  All these names could also even be brother's of George Byrnes ...so more research is certainly needed.

You can search Griffiths here: http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/index.xml?action=doNameSearch&familyname=burns&firstname=First+Name&baronyname=ONEILLAND%2C+EAST&countyname=ARMAGH&unionname=LURGAN&parishname=SEAGOE&Submit.x=28&Submit.y=10

If the link doesn't open correctly, then search for the family with the name spelled "Burnes" and use the following for search O'nielland East, Lurgan and Seagoe

You might want to join Lurgan Ancestry, there is a forum there as well where you could post your question, as well as Old Lurgan Photo's on facebook. Someone may be able to help.

The marriage for George Byrnes and Mary Douglas happened at Seagoe Parish church so it is possible that birth records will be there.

Oh, when using the naming pattern (Irish Scott),children were named after grandparents, uncles and aunts. The first daughter of your John Byne (I saw your post on Ancestry) is named Mary Elizabeth ... a possible clue. IF your John is the son of George and Mary, then Mary Elizabeth could be named for her grandmother (Mary Douglas) and her Greatgrandmother. Moses Douglas (above) was married to Elizabeth (Eliza)!

So, some clues that could set you on the correct path ... or not. Either way I am sure that this family is related to yours. Hopefully we can find the records to confirm it.

By the way, John Byrne's father (this is John the father of George) was James Byrnes bonr about 1748 and died 8 December 1813, Kinnego. His headstone can be found at the Lurgan Ancestry site.

  • My Goodness, Sue!!

I do hope that you check your post with IrelandXO ... I just found on familysearch the records for your John and Selena's marriage and we are related!! John's parents are list as George Byrnes and Mary Douglas, and with you stating that your John was from Kinnego confirms this connection.
