Hello

I would like some help if possible in trying to trace my wife's family, I believe to be from Armagh. Her great grandfather was Jacob Timmins born around 1854 in Armagh according to census records. He married Elizabeth Morrison on 4th August 1872 at the parish church in Richhill, Armagh. She was also from Ireland according to census records but no place names or county. I have found the marriage record on the Irish Roots website & both fathers are named as John with the respective surnames. After the birth of daughter Sarah Jane, again in Richhill, on 14 April 1873 they moved to Scotland then near Whitehaven, Cumberland where they settled. I am unable to find any information on Jacob's or Elizabeth's births nor their parents & siblings so any help at all would be gratefully accepted.

Regards

Dave

  • Some of the pay to view sites only provide transcripts of part of the information on marriage certificates. In this case it might be worth your while looking at the full certificate, to get the couples townlands (addresses), the grooms occupation and their fathers occupations. That may enable me to pick the families up in the revaluation records.

    You can view the full certificate on the GRONI site for ?2. (Use the search registrations option);

    Jacob and Elizabeth?s births are before the start of statutory registration (1864) so you won?t find birth certificates for them. You might find their baptisms is you know what denomination they were? Tradition was to marry in the bride?s church (which should be on the marriage cert) and so that?d be a good place to look for her baptism. From that you may also find any siblings she had.

  • Thanks for that information & the link. Managed to view a copy of the marriage certificate as you said & will take it from there.
