Good day,  I am looking for any information in Armagh, Armagh, Ireland on the John Cherry, Margaret Wilson Family whose children were born in Armagh, Armagh, Ireland.  John Cherry b. July 26, 1805. married November 12, 1830  Margaret Wilson, who was born June 27, 1806 Ireland.

The family then moved on to Dublin; the whole family then immigrated to Ontario Canada in 1850/1851. • You say the Cherry family were Protestant. That can include a number of denominations. For example, searching the 1901 census for Cherry in Armagh, reveals a lot of Presbyterians, some Church of Ireland and at least one Methodist Cherry (as well as some who were RC).

Not all church records are on-line. I have searched for Robert & Margaret?s marriage, as well as their children?s births on the rootsireland site. None are listed. That would suggest they came from a church whose records are not yet on-line, or which are lost. The Armagh city Church of Ireland baptism records for the periods you have mentioned are on-line, so that tends to suggest they didn?t attend the Church of Ireland in the city of Armagh. There?s a gap in Armagh city marriages 1823 to 1844, so they could have married c 1830 but that record may be lost.  There?s no sign of Robert or Margaret?s own baptisms. So it points to them being either Presbyterian and/or from a church outside Armagh city.

Births weren?t recorded in statutory records in Ireland till 1864, and protestant marriages in 1845. So to trace events before that we do need to try and find the exact church the family attended. To go through every set of Protestant church records for Co Armagh would quite an undertaking.

You say Robert Cherry jr may have come back to Armagh. I looked for a death of a Robert Cherry (b c 1835) in Co Armagh 1864 to 1921. I could not find one listed. Nor is there a Robert Cherry anywhere in Armagh in the 1901 census, of the right age.

Ideally we need something to say exactly where in Armagh the family lived. Have you anything with a townland or address on it? And anything that would narrow the religious denomination? I notice one of the children had the middle name Wesley. Could they have been Methodists?
