Trying to trace my Limerick ancestry. My grandmother Nora Woulfe {or Nora Mary or Honora} was born in Limerick around 1881. Her father was James Woulfe, mother Ellen or Elizabeth {possibly Maher} Nora came to NYC at the turn of the century {1900}. Her brother James and a Fitzpatrick cousin may have immigrated with her. This is all the information I have on my elusive grandmother from Limerick. Any help appreciated!

  • Hi G

there are over 300 Woulfe individuals in the 1901 census in Limerick, the Roman Catholic birth registers are here but difficult to read if you do not have a parish. http://registers.nli.ie/ , sorry the census is here and the default year is 1911 see http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/

The civil record begins in 1864 so you should be able to find her record and I can direct you to the place if you wish.

I see no Honoria born in 1881 or any other female Woulfe but I see and Ellen Woulfe born on 2nd April 1876 with father James and Mother Honoria Woulfe Maher, could this be her or a sibling, it says fathers birth in Crattoe. Maybe you can search the RC registers for Crattoe or are they Protestants.

Let me know what you think and we can check further it is bed time here.
