  • I looked up the Kew family in the "History of the Town of Waitsfield, Vermont 1782 - 1908 with family genealogies" by Matt Bushnell Jones and will provide the info in this book re John Kew.

"John Kew came from County Armagh, Ireland to America about 1848 and settled in Fayston, VT where he died March 30, 1897 at age 78.  He married Mary Jane Neill who died April 7, 1888 age 73.

I hope the above helps you in your search.  I am not related but always want to help my fellow researchers.

I'm researching the Roulston ,Wray, Long, Kee, and Maxwell families from County Donegal.

  • Hi again,

I just realized I made a mistake in transcribing the previous message to you.  John's son William R should read:

William R. b March 13, 1851 removed to Lowell, Mass where he was for some years captain in police department. He died August 30, 1908.

George Henry should have read - plus after researching the Long family, I discovered that Mildred Frances married my third cousin, Dwight Lawrence Kew.  The updated information is:

George, born May 3, 1855 resided Waitsfield; m Jan 1, 1879 to Sarah Niles. Sarah born December 22, 1855 in New Brunswick, Canada.   George died October 18, 1942. and Sara died May 31, 1922. Their children all born in Fayston:

    Charles F b Feb 23, 1880

    Agnes E b Nov 28, 1881

    George F b Sept 29, 1883

    Clayton Henry b Jan 27, 1886

    Orville N b July 29, 1888

    Hazel P b August 11, 1890

Mildred Frances born June 11, 1895 married Dwight Lawrence Long July 10, 1915 in Montpelier, Washington, VT. Dwight was born November 9, 1893 in Warren, Washington, VT and died December 18, 1961.  Mildred died October 27, 1988 in Morrisville, Lamoille, VT.  Although, they resided in Montpelier for their married life.

I think I have clarified things for you.  I hope it helps.

  • I realize this message is a couple years old.

Wondering if you had found anything new.

John Kew from Fayston Vermont is my 4x Great Grandfather. I know he was 1 of 3 brothers that emigrated from Ireland. I am in possession of John Kew's bible that he recieved in 1853 in Fayston Vermont. He wrote many family member birth and deaths inside this bible. John is buried in the Irasville Cemetery in Waitsville, Vermont.

In the 1850 Census he, his wife and children their name was spelled McCue instead of Kew. Unsure if they changed their name or if it was an error. In 1860 it was spelled Kew.

David Kew in Massachusetts has taken the time to research from John Kew, as John is our common grandparent that emigrated into the United States I don't have any information on the other brothers.

John Kew and his brothers are the first generation into the US in aprrox. 1847 from an Irish port. Their father is James Kew born approx 1790 in Ireland.
