My husband is a descendent of Thomas Scott and Mary Quinnn, married 1835.- who had a farm in Ballasalla. They had 14 children. Thomas died 1916 in Ballasalla (Hacketstown) My husband's grandfather was Patrick Scott - son of Thomas and Mary- born 1872. Patrick sailed to US in 1922. He married Mary Murray - whom he may have met on ship to US. They settled in Ilion, NY and had two sons, Thomas and John. My husband's father was Thomas. We will be visiting Ireland soon and would like to visit the area of my husband's family. Any information you may provide would be appreciated. Also, we wondered if there were any known descendents still living in the area?

If you were to find a record of Thomas and Mary Quinn’s marriage, you could find their fathers names and occupations and also the townlands/placenames your ancestors came from. Most Catholic records are held locally - One site which might be of use is - http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/browse/ - where you can ‘browse’ an overview of available records per county. If you have any difficulty, you could try writing to the parish priest for possible assistance.
Also Civil registration records are available from the General Register Office (GRO). These start from 1864. You can access the website here: http://www.groireland.ie/research.htm

I see that a Mary Scott passed away in 1990 aged 81years, so certainly there were Scott’s there up to 20 years ago. If you wanted to connect with possible family still in the area you could also try posting in a forum hosted by a local newspaper or society.
