Bridget Maher Born 1840. Married Dec 1865 in Leighlinbridge to

Edward John Brougham Born 1839 County Killkenny. They emigrated to Australia and first child was born here 4 Oct 1866.

Bridget's parents: Michael and Mary Maher(nee Nevin) at least 6 of their children emigrated in the mid 1860's.

Would be grateful to know if any Maher relatives are still in Leighlinbridge or any parish records to confirm they were there. My information was on a Bridget's Death Certificate.

Based on this marriage index record, Bridget and Edward were married in 1864 in the Carlow registration district which includes Leighlinbridge. You can get a copy of this record (which will show the names of the fathers of the bride and groom and where they lived) by writing to the GRO. Go to this link http://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/Apply-for-Certificates.aspx Hit the link for Marriage Certificates in English. You will likely get a screen asking for a User Name and Password. Hit cancel and the form should appear. Fill out the form and provide the year of marriage, registration district and the volume and page number ( 18 and 409). You will have to mail the request for a copy but you can ask the GRO to e-mail the copy back to you. A copy costs around 4 euros.
