My 2 X great grandmother was Bridget Reilly, of Tawlaght (spelled many ways.) She was born in 1826, and married John McArdle in 1851 in the RC church in Ballymachugh.
I don't know how they are related to Bridget, but there are many Reillys woven through the family records. In addition to Peter Reilly witnessing her wedding, each of Bridget's 4 children had a Reilly as a baptismal sponsor. These Reilly sponsors were Patrick, Eleanor - one record reads Ellen - Anna, and Rose. (One record for the same child shows the sponsor is Rose Reilly, one shows Honor Reilly.)
The baptisms, also at the RC Church in Ballymachugh, took place between 1852-1863.
Parish Church records associated with the McArdle family also mention Catherine Reilly, and James Reilly.
I know there are a lot of Reillys in Cavan, but maybe some of these will stand out for someone.

I checked the 1821 census and there are 5 Reilly households in Tawlagh (spelled Thaulaugh). One of these is obviously Bridget's family. There are only two Reilly households left by the time of Griffiths valuation so they seem to have faired badly in the famine. I'll see what else I can dig up on this, but Reilly is as you say a very common name.

Thanks very much for this post and the information. I was unaware of an 1821 census. Every piece of documentation I've found has had Bridget's village spelled differently!
Does it help if I mention that after Bridget married John McArdle in August 1851, they lived in Kilnaleck? That doesn't explain what happened to the rest of the Reillys - I hope they married and moved to new villages. Is there a way I can find out the possible parents of Bridget? If I had the names I might be able to pin something down.
