Muff Townland, Kil RC parish, Kildrumsheidan near Cootehill was the home farmland of Patrick Magauran and his wife Catherine Higgens. Patt b. abt. 1831 - d. 10 Nov 1881 ; Catherine b. abt. 1831 - d. aft. 1911 census. They had 9 known children: Paddy (abt. 1856 - d. 1890 Clinton IA); John (est.1858 - d.1940 Clinton IA); Bridget b. 1857; Mary (1858 -d. aft. 1911); Thomas b. 1861; Kate b.1865, m. Patk. Millet, d. NYC; Andrew ?; Farrell d. young; Philip (1870-1940's) m. Maggie Lee kept the farm.
Our g-gf Paddy McGovern dropped out of the sky at about age 9 into Clinton, Iowa, mid-America. We are still wondering how and why he got there. John emigrated by 1885 as a young man. What happened to the other siblings?

If you haven't already -You could try checking the land records called the Tithe Applotment Books (1823-38) http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/home.jsp or the later Griffith's Valuation (1848-64) http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/ or the Church of Latter Day Saints (LDS) https://familysearch.org/ for the various family members.
Civil registration records are available from the General Register Office (GRO). These start from 1864. You can access the website here: http://www.groireland.ie/research.htm
Valuations office in Dublin (http://www.valoff.ie) will have a record of the land registry from 1855 to modern times. This will assist in seeing what happened to any land the family may have owned (as it usually passed on to a relation).
