In the 1911 census i have found a Thomas Bridgman as Resident of a house 1 in Drumcrow (Ballyhaise, Cavan), where he was a pupil of Agriculture. I believe he might be the son of my great grandparents who lived in Knocknabooly West, Loghill, Limerick. If he is the correct person he is a long way from home and I believe he may never have gone back.

Would love to know where he went to from here and any information on the house or Thomas would be gratefully received. Many thanks in advance

  • Hi,

    Thank you for your message.

If Thomas was a pupil of Agriculture in Ballyhaise, he would have attended Ballyhaise Agricultural College which was established in 1906. It is located in Ballyhaise House, which was originally a market house built in the 18th century. The college is still functioning today. If you would like to see a photo of the house, follow this link:

You could try contacting the Cavan County Library for some information on the local area and the house in Drumcrow. Here are their contact details:

Unfortunately, the 1911 census is the latest record source that we have in Ireland, so it may be difficult to trace where Thomas went after his studies. Perhaps you could try contacting the Cavan Genealogy Centre, who may be able to offer you some more advice. However, they may charge a fee for their services. Here are their contact details:

I hope that you are able to track down Thomas's whereablouts after college. Remember to post any new information that you find. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.

    Kind regards,
