Hello,

I believed that my 3 times great grandmother was from Mullagh area. Her name was Ellen Duffy nee Boylan.

Ellen was born about 1840s and got married to Patrick Duffy from Drumbone, Monaghan in June 1867.

Together they had many children in Drumbone.

Anything would be very helpful.

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

The subscription site Roots Ireland has an 1865 church marriage record in Mullagh. See below. I did not locate a baptismal record in Mullagh for Ellen. The records in Mullagh start in 1842 so it is possible that she was baptized pre-1842.

    Date of Marriage:22-Jun-1865
    Parish / District:MULLAGH
    County:Co. Cavan
    Husband  PatrickDuffy
    Wife EllenBoylan

I only found one baptismal record for a child of Patrick and Ellen in 1870.

    Name:Mary DuffyDate of Birth:20-Feb-1870
    Date of Baptism:
    Address:DrumbroaghParish/District:CARRICKMACROSSGender:
    CountyCo. Monaghan
    Denomination:
    Father:Patrick DuffyMother:Ellen Boylan

The 1901 census shows Ellen was a widow and two unmarried children were living with her: Patrick and Anne. Patrick appears to have died in 1891. The 1911 census shows that young Patrick married had a number of children and his wife appears to have died in late 1900 when she had her last child. I did not find a copy of Ellen's death record but she may have died in 1912. An unmarried daughter Kate was also in the house in 1911.

Let me know if you have any questions.

  • Correction: Patrick's wife died in 1910 not 1900.

  • Hi Roger,

I saw that Ellen had a relative by the name of Jane Boylan. I didn't know if she was her sister or sister in law. Would you be able to search that for me?

    Thank you,

    Sean

  • Sean:

I searched on Roots Ireland for Jane Boylan baptismal records and this is the only record that came up. Kiawley is a parish on the Cavan/Fermanagh border.
