My gg grandfather, Ambrose Forsythe (1823-1896) married Frances (Fannie) Trimble or Tremble in Munterconnaught church in 1848. At the time he was described as a schoolteacher but later was a farmer and estate manager. They lived at Knockatemple and had several children but I do not know all their names and details. Some were baptised in Munterconnaught church. The ones I know were Frances (1849-1931), Joseph (1851-1907, went to Australia), Mary (1856-1925, went to Australia), Henry Benjamin (1859-1925, died in Dundee Scotland).

The other probable ones are Samuel (b. 1857), Jack (who may have been the one called Joseph), George and Bill, all of whom may have come to Australia. I'd love to find out more details of these, who were included in an old family tree that had some inaccuracies and I am not sure of their names or if they existed.

If anyone knows the ancestors of Ambrose or Fannie I'd also be interested.

Fannie died in childbirth with Henry and Ambrose moved to Knockbride in Cavan and soon remarried and had more children.

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out and apologies for the delay in replying to your message.

Have you tried searching the usual sites (listed below) for further records of Ambrose and Fannie?s children?

www.familysearch.org has a huge database of genealogical records including some church records for Ireland.

www.rootsireland.ie have a large collection of Irish Church records, however you have to pay to use this site.

http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/ have begun a project to upload Irish church records to their site free of charge. However, so far only Counties Dublin, Kerry, Carlow and parts of Cork have been covered.

As an aside, Munterconnaught have a Facebook page for their Heritage Society. They will be able to tell you if there is a local history publication that might make reference to Ambrose, particularly if you think he was a teacher and estate manager. You could also contact Cavan Archives. If Ambrose was an estate manager there may be further information about him in their collections:

    Cavan Archives: http://www.cavanlibrary.ie/Default.aspx?StructureID_str=36

    Munterconnaught fb page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Munterconnaught-Heritage-Society/1492590…

Other important sources include the Tithe Applotment Books and Griffith?s Valuation. Even though these sources only record the head of the household, the information is very important and can be valuable:

    Tithe Applotment Books (1823-1837): http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/index.jsp

    Griffith?s Valuation (1847-1864): http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/

The National Archives of Ireland: http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/  you can search the 1901/1911 Census on the National Archives page too, for instances of the family name at that time

Remember to post any new information that you find here. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.

Best of luck with your search
