Tristram PATTON, middle brother of William (eldest) and Robert, emigrated from County Tyrone, it is said, somewhere in the vicinity of 1771-1777. He lived first in Philadelphia, finally making his home in what would become West Virginia where he died in 1843. His birth date varies, according to the source, from 1744 to 1764. One source gives his mother's name as Ann Eliza SIMPSON.

Tristram is said to have had cousins, Robert and Tristram (“Trussy”) PATTON who settled in the same area of Virginia, Robert in about 1805 with his wife Jean (one source gives her maiden name as RAMSEY) and several children. We believe “Trussy” to be one of Robert’s offspring. Ca. 15 August 1793 is the date given by one source for the birth of Trussy and 24 August 1885 for his death in West Virginia. This Tristram is said to have been left 200 pounds sterling by James RAMSAY of Waterford, Ireland.
William, another child of this cousin Robert, is said to have been born in Londonderry in 1778. Robert, the father of William and Trussy, was born in County Donegal. The same source gives him a death date in Virginia of 1823.

Since September, 2011, we have done much research, including two reports commissioned from the Ulster Historical Foundations, to try to track down our illusive ancestor Tristram PATTON. The best we have been able to come up with is that our ancestor's family may well have been from Urney (or Camus or Ardstraw) parish in Co. Tyrone or from the Limavady area in Co. Londonderry.

If anyone has any information on the PATTONs of Co. Tyrone, especially those in the vicinity of Strabane, please let us know. We haven't yet given up hope!
