I have recently discovered my gr gr grandmother Mary Marrinan was always referred to in letters from Australia to my gr gr grandfather's sister in New York as Mary Marrinan Natey. This is the v first time I have heard of this name, and am wondering if it has particular significance, could it help our searches in Co Clare in some way. Her baptism, Cratloe, marriage to Patrick Clancy in Launceston, Tasmania, and death in Brisbane, Australia, make no mention. Suggestions as to its meaning would be most helpful. We know she came to Australia with lots of other young girls from the Kilrush Workhouse. Thank you, Carollyn

She might have been part of the Earl Grey orphan emigration scheme from the Irish workhouses to Australia, do you know what year she arrived?
I can only find 3 records with the name Marrinan and they could be mispelled, the records I did found were from co. Louth.

Thankyou for your reply. Sorry if I wasn't clear. My question was about the name/word Natey which was added to Mary Marrenan's name by her husband Patrick Clancy whenever he was referring to her. Was wondering if this is another Irish surname, or well known nickname in Limerick or Clare? Thank you, Carollyn
