Greetings,
From information on his marriage and death cert. my G Grandfather Michael GALVIN was born in Co. Clare, his parents were Patrick and Catherine (Hogan) Galvin. This has been confirmed by information received regarding his baptism details from Peter Beirne and Larry Brennan (Clare Library and Clare Rootsweb).
Details I have for Michael and siblings are as follows:

Michael  - baptised on 17 September 1845 – Sponsors John Hogan and Ellen Mulcreevy
Mary -  baptised 2 July  1842 – Sponsors unknown
Patrick – baptised 13 February 1844 – sponsors Tony Garvey and Mary Roughan
Patrick – baptised 3 March 1847 – sponsors John Hogan and Margaret Garvey

All the baptisms are recorded in Doora/Barefield Parish

It is probable that the sponsors are related to my Galvin/Hogan family, the only connection I can find  is the marriage of John Hogan to Ellen Mulcreevy  on 28 Feb. 1932 in Templemaley.

Family lore has it that Michael received money from his father and that he was bequeathed something in his will but never returned to Ireland to claim it, perhaps indicating that Patrick and Catherine had ‘money’ of some sort!
I have attempted to locate them on the Griffiths Valuations but end up being totally confused!!

Sources I have tried have been Clare Library site, Ancestry, Family Search.
I can pick up Michael from his marriage in Australia in 1875 until his death in New Zealand in 1926, but have no other information on him or his parents prior to this.
I would love to have more information about his/my Irish roots - marriage details of his parents Patrick and Catherine/Kate (Hogan) Galvin, where they lived, when they died, where they are buried etc, etc., and any information that can be gained about Michael’s brothers and sister.

Much appreciation of any advice or help in furthering my search,

Regards,  Dale Gradon (nee Galvin)  New Zealand

  • Hi Dale. I am fairly new to the IRO site and was just been reading through any messages regarding the surnames Galvin and Anderson.

Do you poosibly have or know of a Johanna or Jane Galvin c. 1832 who married William Anderson in around 1855. I have a John William Anderson born around that time in Banagher; and IRO have found parents Anderson/Galvin with a son of that name, as well as a sibling Thomas. But there is no definitive record for thier connection!

    He you can help?

    Best wishes

    Steve

have you checked back with the Clare Library website since your first post?  They have added a lot of new resources including the parish registers which have been transcribed.

If you would like some help, please email me at:  tulla@irelandxo.com.

    All the best,
