THYNNE BURKE.jpg (262.72 KB)

My 3x G Grandfather was Andrew Thynne, b approx 1790-Lahinch (Lahensy), Clare, and passed away in Ennystimon, Clare, in 1874. He was married to Harriet Burke of Galway, (1814 Tuam Doicese) and they lived at Stream-Let Lodge, Kilshanny, Clare.

If anyone can help me with this family, I would appreciate it so much, as I live in Canada, a little too far away to visit the local places in person. Specifially, I am trying to determine who were the parents of my 3x G Grandfather Andrew Thynne, and if there are any Thynnes still living in Kilshanny.

Thanks so much!

  • Hi Margiad

Welcome to Ireland  Reaching Out and apologies for the delay in getting back to you.

As you know, it's a pity we don't have the parents' names on the marriage index. Usually the couple would have married in the home parish of the bride, but I cannot find any marriage record for them in Tuam Diocese. It could be that they married in a parish where records start after 1814. There is only 1 baptism record for a Harriet Burke baptised in Galway but it refers to 1823, and while it is unlikely we shouldn't necessarily rule it out entirely at this point. Without the marriage it would be difficult to find out more about their parents. You may have to go on an information gathering exercise to see what information you can find on the basis that new sources become available at some point in the future to help you make an informed decision. You could look for example to see what Thynne baptisms are available and see if they could be Andrew's siblings based on year of birth.

    Best wishes
