My Finucane and O'Shaughnessy ancestors once lived in Coolmeen town, Kilfiddane parish.  Ellen Finucane-O'Shaughnessy emigrated to Montreal, Canada with 5 of her sons.  We do not know if her husband, John O'Shaughnessy, a tailor, emigrated with her.  The time of emigration is suspected to be 1847, but the family could have emigrated in two waves, so to speak.

My great grandfather, son #6, born in Montreal in March 1848, visited Clare and Galway in the summer of 1888 to see the land of his parents' and his brothers' birth.  He came back with the information, no doubt a confirmation, that his family had lived in Coolmeen.

Any information would be appreciated.  I will be visiting West Ireland in the spring of 2014, so would be able to do further research on the ground then.
