I am looking for any information on my GGF John Butler, born 1839, County Clare.  I have found a John Butler , born 1839, in the Tubber Parish RC Church records. Father and mother are listed as: John Butler and Mary O'Keeffe or Keeffe.  According to these records they also had three other children also baptized in the parish: Mary(1833), Pat(1836), and James(1842). I hav found a John Butler in Griffith's Valuation in 1855 in the Townland of Rockville (house and land) and Kilourney (land). My GGF immigrated to the US in the early 1860's.  It is believed his brothers immigrated with him  Can't find any records of what became of his father and mother or his sister.  No record of any other brothers or sisters. Looking for any information on the Butler's or O'Keeffe's from this area..

  • Hallo Woody.

I have just seen your post regarding the Butlers of Kilkeady Co Clare. I am writing on behalf of my husband Dennis Young. His gg grandfather was James Butler born 1842 parents John Butler and Mary O'Keefe. He emigrated to Australia and married Margaret Anne Fogarty in 1874. Her parents had emigrated to Australia from the same area in Co Clare and she was born there in 1854. We have just come back from a visit to Co Clare and found Rockvale and Kilkeady Church where James Butler was baptised in 1842.

Did you have any luck with your research?

    Best wishes Kathryn and Dennis

  • Katie,

My GGF's obit just said he was born 15 April 1839 in County Clare. Sadly it did not list the names of Mother/Father/Brothers/Sisters. What I listed in my original was info given me by a cousin who visited County Clare and found birth baptism info in Tupper Parish, County Clare. He emigrated to the US in the early 1860's. He married a Mary Long, whose parents were from County Kerry in 1867. She was 13 years of age at the time. The eventually moved to Sedalia, Missouri, USA and can be found in the 1900 US Censes in said location. I have never been able to find any info on what became of his parents and siblings. My GF, Ferdinand Butler was born in Missouri, as was my father, Woodrow Pershing Butler, Sr. I was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, USA, in 1945, and am presently living there. My email: wobutjr@gmail.com. I truly wish I could provide more info but have been unable to find records for all in Ireland. Please keep in contact. Woody Jr
