I've recently volunteered to be Killadysert's liaison here on Ireland Reaching Out. As Cynthia pointed out, the more information you give us, i.e. what you already know, where you've looked with what results, the more likely connections can be made.

For instance, I can advise you to go to www.clarelibrary.ie, click on Genealogy on the home page, click on 1901 Census -- surnames sort, then find the page Melican would be on, use CTRL+F to find melican, look for Patrick or variations and see the two Patricks, Snr and Jnr, living at Clonulla, Killadysert, but you may already have done that.  :-)  But for the sake of a tutorial in case someone else is reading this for general search tips, to the right of the page I've led you to, click on Go To for a transcription of the census of all persons living in that townland. Melicans are at the bottom of this page, where you can see that your Patrick b abt 1815 and his wife Margaret were living with their son and HIS family.

Your original question, the same question MOST of us have, is to locate living descendants of your ancestor Patrick Snr. This is the point where I will need to know more about what you have done already. Do you descend from Patrick Jnr? Are you aware of any other children Patrick Snr and his wife Margaret?

I would love to help you with your search, but I will need to have more information (what you already know).

I've heard mention that there is some type of Melican Family reunion this summer in County Clare.  If you haven't heard about it and are interested, I can track down the details.

Thank you for the message.  I realize that my initial message was rather vague.  

Per your message, I looked at the Clare Library's 1901 Census information about Patrick Melican:

Per the census record of the Cloonulla Townland in Killadysert, the following Melicans appear there:

Patrick Melican Jnr., Head of Family, age 44
Bridget Melican, Wife, age 41
Patrick Melican, Son, age 22
John Melican, Son, age 21
Michael Melican, Son, age 12
Martin Melican, Son, age 8
Thomas Melican, Son, age 6
Annie Melican, Daughter, age 4    

Patrick Melican Sen., Head of Family, age 83
Margaret Melican, Wife, age 72      

According to this census record Patrick Melican, senior, is 83 years old.  That would make him born circa 1818.

In my initial message, I refer to Patrick Melican who died at the age of 86 in 1905.  Accordingly he would be born circa 1819.

I do not know if I am connected to the Patrick Melican of Killadysert.  However, my great-great-grandfather was John Melican who lived in Tulla Parish where the church records date back to 1819.  I believe that John Melican had a brother named Patrick Melican who was baptized on 23 March 1819 in Tulla.  He was the son of Denis Melican and Margaret Hogan.  I am curious if the Patrick Melican of Killadysert is the same as the Patrick Melican of Tulla? Or is it coincidence that they have the same name and were born about the same time?

Hi Jeanne, Tom and others. My name is Michael Patrick Milligan, and am descended from Patrick Melican b. 1819 and Margaret Meehan Melican b. 1825, through Daniel Joseph Melican b. 1864. Daniel is the older brother of Patrick Jr b. 1866, and possibly Bridget b. 1870.

One thing that is concerning to me is the age of Patrick Sr and, especially, Margaret, when they had their children: Patrick Sr would have been 45, 47 and 51; more to the point, Margaret would have been 39, 41 and 45. I'm trying to verify this is true.

lWorse, my records show Patrick Sr & Margaret emigrating to America in the 1860s to 1870s with Daniel and Patrick Jr. But this shows them living in Ireland to old age.

Call me confused! lol

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
