  • Hi Beth

There are 6 baptism records for MARY Meere 1854 + - 10 years on www.rootsireland.ie/

    Meere Mary 1857 Co. Clare

    Meere Mary 1849 Co. Clare

    Meere Mary 1848 Co. Clare

    Meere Mary 1848 Co. Clare

    Meere Mary 1846 Co. Clare

    Meere Mary 1862 Co. Clare

    There are also a Michael 1863 & a Martin 1864

    There are none from Killadysert!!

1857 is closest to 1854 so here it is:

http://Name: Mary Meere Date of Birth: Date of Baptism: 16-May-1857 Address: Turnpike Parish/District: ENNIS Gender: Female County Co. Clare Denomination: Roman Catholic Father: Martin Meere Mother: Margaret McMahon Occupation: Sponsor 1 / Informant 1: William Lucas Sponsor 2 / Informant 2: Mary Dobson

5 of the 6 records are from ENNIS; 1 is from PARTEEN; neither Ennis or Parteen is close to Killadysert however.

The marriage record in Killdysart on family serach doesn't have parents' names of course!

The Tithe Applotments (free online) have 4 Meeres in Killadysert 1825; 2 Michaels, 1 John & 1 Mathew so maybe one of these is her father?

There are 2 baptisms of John Meade in Clare 1847 + - 10 years all in ENNIS:

    1843, 1852 & 1857

Let me know if you want any more details of any of the above

    Col

  • Hi Col, thank you for your time on this. Most records I have for Maria refer to her as a Maria. I have 1 record identifying her as a Mary so I am unsure where to go from here. One of the Meade/Meere sons (John) was born in Ennis according to his immigration records. There is a Margaret McMahon mentioned in the marriage record. I am not a memeber of RootsIreland.IE and can't afford it right now so none of the links open for me.

If I want to obtain records from ireland what is the best way yo go about it? I hope to visit this year.

  • Beth I would strongly encourage you to keep an open mind on the Mary/Maria question as there were so many inaccuracies due to illiteracy & transcription errors + other varaibles.
You can order certificates online from the GRO Ireland.
A couple of the other volunteers - Roger from the states & Elwyn from N Ire use it all the time but I haven't found it too easy. They are 4euro each i believe.
The 'links' you mention weren't links - just my cut & paste.
I'm happy to send any info you want from rootsireland.
Thanks for the ancestry offer - I subscribe to that one too.

Here is the grave site transcription. John Meade died  17th July 1925 aged 78. (Putting his birth about 1847). Marie Meere died.5th March 1928 aged 74. (Putting her birth about 1854)The stone was erected by their son James. I wonder if Kilchreest Graveyard is close to where he was living at the time or if the family moved from Crahera. Kilchreest Parish

A thank you to seanmacd for the info about the other Meade's. I am not that far back yet so will keep your post for future clarification.

  • Hi Col, I will keep an open mind on the Marie//Mary question. About 80% of her records indicate Marie...one references a Maria and another says Mary. When I start looking at the Mary Meere's for the same period/ location there are several so it gets confusing. A descendent of hers just replied to a post of mine looking for a grandchild of hers so I am hopeful some new information can be gained. Thank you for your wisdom and help. I'll update as new information comes available. Enjoy this precious day :-)
