I am looking for information on my GG Grandfather Peter Cussen who married Mary Normile in Kilmihil, Co. Clare. I estimate they were born in the 1830's and married in the mid 1850's. They had 7 children Michael (Mickey) born in 1857, John (Jack) 1859, Katherine (1863), Hanorah (1865), Thomas (1867), Hannah(1870), and Ellen (1873). All left Ireland except Michael, John and Katherine who stayed and ran the family farm. I've been told that Katherine married Michael O'Grady and had 7 children. Both Michael and John died bachelors and Ellen who married Thomas Killean came back and sold the family farm. She then went to live with a niece (Katherine's daughter) in Limmerick and passed away there. What I am looking for is information on my GG Grandparents Peter Cussen and Mary Normile, as to their parents, birth dates, and date of marriage. Information on the birth dates of Mickey and John and when they passed. Also any information on Michael O'Grady and Katherines family. Thank you for your time.

  • I found your family in the 1901 census. They lived in Sheeaun townland in Kilmihil parish.

    Peter was a widower and shown as being 70. The ages shown for the three children are probably understated based on your note. Looks like Peter died in 1904. See the death index record below. You can write to the GRO http://www.groireland.ie to get a copy of the record.

    Further below is the 1911 census record showing Michael and John still living in Sheeaun. Note the ages of 52 and 50 were closer to the ages in your note. Also, the surname was spelled Cushen.
