My wife's GG Grandfather was Cornelius Loughery born 15 July 1832, reportedly near Gort, Galway [he EMIGRATED to Maine USA before 1850, worked as a lumberman, married Jane Hillery Gardner in 1856 in Maine, & moved to Wisconsin, USA]. His PARENTS were reportedly "MARTIN & KATIE" [they did NOT EMIGRATE]. We have found Loughery's leasing all of the farmland in the Townland of Derrycallan South, Beagh parish (near Gort), County Galway, but no Martin Loughery was listed in that area in available records.
However, the Griffith Valuation (1855) lists a "Martin Loughery (leasing from James O'Brien), 'House' (no land listed), in Kilmihil Parish, Sheeaun Townland (map location '1, g')" Perhaps he moved here from Galway (?)
DOES ANYONE HAVE any information about the above Martin Loughery? Descendants? Wifes's first name? Any thing?
Just as a point of information, there were also Loughery's in Dunneill & Derrylough Townland's of Killimer Parish in the 1855 Griffith Val.; and a Martin Loughery was listed as a 'witness' in an 1884 Petty Court Session in Kilrush.

Thanks Jane. I have gone thru those Kilmihil records. No PINE's or PYNE's or LOUGHERY's in any of those church records, even though Tithe Applot, shows a John Pyne in Kilmihil and the Griffith shows a Michael and John Pine there. I did find that there are LOUGHERY's a little farther south in Killimer Parish, and a John Pyne too.
We are fairly sure our Loughery's are from Beagh Parish, Galway, and if it is "our" Martin Loughery in Kilmihil, it means the family was "on the move", definitely possible I suppose. You'd think if they knew we were looking for them, they would stay put : >) cheers, andy

As mentioned earlier, we have discovered the maiden name of the mother of the Cornelius LOUGHERY whose ancestors we seek. Cornelius was born July 1832, Gort, Co., the son of Martin LOUGHERY and "Katie" PINE. Since he was born in Gort, we have been a little skeptical that his father was the Martin LOUGHERY of Kilmihil Paris, Co. Clare, as given in the Griffith Val
.But now in checking the exact location specified by Griffith Val. of this Martin LOUGHERY (extreme west side of Sheeaun Townland), we find he was on the same road and only 1/2 mile from where a John PINE lived and 1 mile from a Michael PINE, in the immediately adjacent townland of Leitrim. Now we’re not so sure.
It is possible his wife was from Kilmihil and Martin moved from Beagh parish area to his wife’s homeland. I’m wondering whether the famine years may have cause a lot of migrations??
Anyone have any connections or info about the PINE family of County Clare?
