My 3rd great grandparents are James and Ellen. Their children are listed in the Kilmurry Ibrickane Parish Regsiters, including son James, born 1845, who is my 2nd great grandfather. The baptisms are listed in Rine/Rhyne, and the James is found in Griffiths Valuation page 49, in Ballymackea Beg, is supposedly James and Ellen. I have not been able to find any further information on James or Ellen. Most of their children, siblings to my 2nd great grandfathter apparently immigrated later than he and stayed in NY/NJ area.

I would love to know more of my Clare family, what happened to James and Ellen, and anything about their parents.

My grandfather, James William McNamara, born in West Virginia, died in Newport News Virginia in 1966, was very proud of his Irish heritage. My mother remembers a little map he kept folded in my grandmother's jewlry box, that he would take out now and again and show her. It was of Ireland, and he would point to Clare and remind her that that is where his family is from.

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

RC parish records for the parish of Kilmurry Ibricken start in 1839 so it is unlikely that we can find the baptismal records of James and Ellen. Here is a link to the register   http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0785

I located two of the baptismal records: Thadieus 1847 and Ellen 1853 and the Rine/Ryne is likely Rineroe townland. The Griffiths was published in 1855 so likely the McNamaras moved between 1853 and 1855. Rineroe and Ballymackea Beg are about six kilometers apart.

Civil registration of deaths started in 1864. I looked for a James McNamara in the Kilrush registration district but did not find a good possible index record. There were a couple records that were possible for Ellen.

  • Thank you so much Roger. Could you share the info on possible Ellen Keleher McNamara death/burial records? My father reminded me of some information he obtained years ago from Clare Heritage, a death date/place of June 12, 1887 in Ballymackea, County Claire for Ellen and James died September 24, 1895 at Rine, Ballymackea. His death was registered by a niece, Maria McNamara of Mullagh. Would love to know where they are buried.

The Ellen b.1853 immegrated to NY and lived in the Bronx with several of her siblings. She married a VanWettering. I've not found any other info on Timothy.

  • Pam:

I expanded the variant search to include M'Namara and found the index records for the two quarters, your father mentioned.
