I am looking for Mary Maley, born about 1840 in Co. Clare.  She married John Greene in New Haven, Connecticut, USA on 22 June 1862 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. John Greene was born also around 1840 in Co. Clare. I believe that Mary had a brother, William, who also lived in New Haven.  He was born in 1854 and married Margaret Cunningham.  She was born in Scotland in 1854, but is of Irish descent and Catholic, as are they all.

Since doing DNA testing, I'm hoping to find matches through DNA.  My GEDmatch number is: M632230 and my sister's is: A221978.  If you match us, please email me at: mamasi@comcast.net.

I only go back to great, great grandparents on this line and Greene and Maley are the only names I have there.  So anyone with Maley/Green connections that have these surnames also, I would like to connect with you to try to see how they might fit.

I also have a McLaughlin line from another side of my family, and believe they come from Londerry.  I strongly suspect they are Ulster-Scots.

Anyone having any interest in these family names?  I would love to share information with you.

Many thanks,

Melody Masi

  • Hi Melody:

Have you checked out the Clare County Library website?  They have a lot of online information that you may find very helpful.  Their address is:   www.clarelibrary.ie/genealogy.  I will keep an eye out here in Tulla for you with regard to the two family names.

Thanks for your query to Ireland Reaching Out.

    Kind regards,

    Jane.

  • Thank you so much, Jane.  That is very kind of you.  I hope you can find something.  It's challenging when their first and last names are so common!

I have checked out that website, but not for quite a long time, and it deserves another look.

    The best to you,

    Melody

  • Hi Melody:

your name is very familiar and I'm not sure from where!

I have found a Mary Maley from Glendree townland in Tulla parish who may match your search.  Her parents were Pat Maly and Mary Jones and she was baptised on 23 April 1840.  Her record is listed at page 95 of the Tulla parish register 1819-1846 on the National Library website. The Maly/Maley surname was noted in Glendree.

As to John Green, it is possible that he was also from Tulla.  I will search for you (or you can through the Clare Library website.

If you want further information from me, please email me at:  tulla@irelandxo.com.

    All the best,

    Jane

  • Hi Melody. I am an Anderson, and from army records am given to believe my GGGF John William Anderson was from Banagher in around 1854. He was in the Queens Own Hussars and travelled the world. His wife was Alce Knight from Alton in Hampshire, UK

However, on his marriage cert and subdesuent childrens birth records they are all given as American. Not until the UK 1911 census did he correct the entry for his birth to Kings County. Another clue is that he naned one of his sons Clare !

I have his wedding certificate confirming his father was William Anderson, a farmer. IRO hav been very helpful in finding a William Anderson mariied to a Johanna or Jane Galvin; and son Thomas, and a record in Latin possibly connecting them to John. My full public tree is on Ancesrry.com and FamilySearch.Org

Please do let me know if we have any connections.

    Best wishes

    Steve

  • Hello Steve,

I'm sorry, but as far as I know, there are no Andersons in my tree.  The best of luck in your searches!
