Hello there,

I would like to introduce myself as I am new to this site. My name is James Maher and I am the son of Irish immigrants to the United States. My understanding is that I am automatically an Irish citizen, but to prove this I need an Irish Passport. I have been in the process of applying for this for quite awhile now. Among the articles needed for this is a long copy birth certificate, or in the absence of this, a certified copy of a Baptismal record and letter from the parish. These are the only things preventing me from obtaining my Passport.

If there is someone there that can aid me in the search for these documents I would love to hear from them. I have much information that I can supply in our search for them...

Kind Regards,

James C. Maher

  • Dear James:

Many thanks for your post to the Ireland Reaching Out message board.

We do not get involved with passports for diaspora, however I can give you some guidance as to obtaining the documentation that you will need.

The link below will give you the necessary information about documentation that you will need.  You may already have this information, but there is a good checklist which you should use in order to be sure that you are eligible for citizenship and a passport.  I'm assuming that your parents or grandparents were born in Ireland.

You will need to receive long form birth certificates from the General Register Office in County Roscommon.  These cost about €20 each. Their website address is below:

You will also need to register your birth in the Foreign Births Register before you apply for citizenship.

If you have any further questions, please contact me directly at:  jhalloranryan@irelandxo.com and I can direct your query further.

    Kind regards,

    Jane

  • It's great that you're exploring the process of obtaining your Irish passport as an automatic Irish citizen. I understand that gathering the required documents, such as a long copy birth certificate or a certified copy of a Baptismal record and letter from the parish, can be challenging.
While I can't directly assist with passport-related matters, I recently came across a website that might be helpful in your case as well. It's called ID Analyzer, and they offer a Prime ID Scanner that can assist with document verification. You can find more information at https://www.idanalyzer.com/products/prime-id-scanner.html

  • Hi there. Firstly, make sure you have all the necessary documents and information ready to go. This can include things like proof of address, proof of age, and a passport or driver's license from your home country. If you're still waiting on any of these documents, try to get them sorted as soon as possible. Additionally, it's worth checking out some fake ID videos online to get a better idea of what to expect. Just be sure to do your research and only use reputable sources. Anyway, hope this helps.
