Looking for details of Mary Markham born  August 1829 and baptised 12th August 1829 with sponsors Bridget McNamara and Maurice Littleton.

Her sister Anne born June 1837 and baptised 30th June 1837.  Her sponsor was Bridget Lynch.

Their brothers Michael (who married Anne McNamara born circa 1835 in Quin) Daniel, Patrick and

Martin Markham all left for Australia by 1863 with their sister Bridget born 1840.

The family headed by John Joseph Markham and his wife Mary Sullivan Markham farmed 13 and half acres at "Toonagh" Clooney above Quin, County Clare with Mary's brother or father Patt (in Tithe appointments).  Dont know what became of John and his wife Mary.  They were alive when the last son Martin left County Clare in 1863 according to the shipping records.

3 different Markham families all came to the Hunter Valley of NSW where they all prospered.  It is confusing because they all have similiar names and our ancestor Patrick, married Bridget from another Markham family.

I am hoping to find who Mary Markham and Anne Markham married and if they had children and to eventually and hopefully contact their descendants with a view to exchanging family history information.

Many thanks for any information that you can glean.  Cheers Carolyn

  • Thank you so much Emma, yes I have used this worthwile and excellent resource.  Thats how I found that the girls father John Joseph Markham (Marcum in Tithe books) farmed 13 and half acres at Toonagh Quin above Clooney.   I have accounted for all the brothers and l sister its the other two Mary and Anne who are a complete mystery.  They may have married chaps in Clare and not immigrated and there may be a lovely family over there just waiting for their Aussie rello to contact them.

Really appreciate your help - this is becoming like a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, May I wish you all the best with your research.  Cheers CArolyn.

  • Hi Carolyn!

Not sure if you are still looking at posts from here, but I just saw your post about Markham sisters.  My 3rd great grandmother was Ann(Nancy) Markham (Markahan).  She was married to Thomas Fitzgerald.

I have been searching through National Library of Ireland for siblings of Ann and I think that John may be her brother.

I found this record for Mary's bapstism.

My email is margiekole@icloud.com if you would like to contact me directly.

All the best in your search!
