The Kelly family in Tulla

I shall be travelling to Europe June/July 2017 and could spend some time in Ireland pursuing the above - if there's any scope of discovering anything further.  Do you think it would be worthwhile????????????

Some of the above details are sketchy,  i.e. Margaret's place of origin was Newmarket and her parents were Peter and Johanna Quinn, both deceased.

Edmond and Margaret were married on the 6th October 1862 in Martin Dillon's house in Market Street in Ennis.

Margaret and Edmond Kelly departed Plymouth on the 26th January 1864 on board the Queen of the East together with their infant daughter, Anne.  They arrived in Sydney on the 30th April 1864.  I am unsure about the birth date of their daughter, Anne. The only record i could find is from the Ennis baptism records which show a daughter born on the 30th June 1860 to Margaret Quin living in Sims Lane, Ennis.  No father's name is listed.

Their sponsor was one Mary Quinn who is shown on the ship's arrival papers as the sister of Margaret Kelly.  I have found no other definitive records relating to Mary Quinn in Australia.

I have searched the Catholic Parish baptism records now on line for both Edmond Kelly and Margaret Quinn but have found nothing.  I did, however, find the marriage record.

Both surnames were present in the parish.  I can take another look at the parish records for you as the years between 1830-1840 are nearly impossible to read online.

You might find the Local Studies Centre in Ennis helpful with regard to your research and in particular to the Ennis connection that you have. They have a number of resources available at the branch.

I have just returned from Tulla, Clare. Jane was a marvelous help to us and i kniow you will be pleased with what she will have to show you. 

My Kelly line goes through Nelly Kelly, who married James Meehan. In 1836 they had a daughter Mary in Tulla.( Moymore area)Mary later married Ptricj McMahon of Kiltnanon townland  in Jlu 1860 at Tulla. They had three chidlren  : John (1861), Mary (1862) and catherine (1864). Parick is believed to have gone to Queensland ,while  Mary meehan McMahon and her two daughters went to New Zealand. 

It would be a lovely connection is your Edmund and my Nelly were related. Good luck with your visit.

Hello Kathleen,

I think my Edmund was born about 1838 so, I suppose that would place your Nelly as possibly my Edmund's aunt, i.e. his father Patrick Kelly's sister.  I so far have no information about any siblings of Edmund nor any siblings of his father. It would also place Mary Meehan McMahon as Edmund's first cousin.
