McInerney’s of Tulla and Drumcharley.

Hello,

The Clare Heritage Centre provided the family information that is identified on an Hourglass tree which has been emailed to you.

Denis of Drumcharlie married Margaret Brodie of Craggaunkeel on 18 Feb1829 and

Brother Dan of Drumcharlie married Mary Brodie of Craggaunkeel on 29 Feb 1832

I am descended from Denis through his son John (1839) who came to Australia in 1865

I would appreciate a copy of the parish death record for:

Denis McInerney who I think died in 1875 aged 77 years

Margaret McInerney, his wife who died between 1865 and 1868 and

Their son James (1835 at Tome) who had died between the 1901 and 1911 census

Also if possible, I would like to know where they were buried.

Denis and Margaret family.

It appears that Denis farmed at Drumcharley and at nearby Tome.

I have some details of son James’ (1835) family and I note that his family and Dan’s son John’s family (were cousins) were on the Drumcharley property in the 1901 and 1911 census.  James son John married Eliza Gleesan in Finglass Dublin 30 June 1919.

Daughter Mary arrived in Australia in 1868 and was at brother John’s wedding (to Mary Fields of Moy Tyrone).  She later married Mary field’s brother John.

Son Michael (1837) came to Australia in 1875.

Dan’s son Michael was a store keeper in Tulla.  His grave is in the Tulla cemetery close to his brother John.  John’s grave is CL-TLA-0531.  I have a photo of these graves.  John’s grandson Pakie (1920) was the last McInerney on the Drumcharley property. He died on 18 October 1998.

I have further information which has been shared with a distant cousin (on Dan’s side of the family) who lives in Feakle.

Many thanks in anticipation.

  • Hi Lulu,

    Hi Cousin,

    Condolences re your Dad Jeremiah.

I am in contact with two of yours and my cousins in Australia, one being descended from Packie's uncle (Patrick Joseph) as you are from Ellen (baptised 23 November 1888).

Presume that your Dad's parents were Eileen and John Liston and 5 of the 6 children were Anne, John, Jeremiah, Eileen and Christine.

Ellen's (McInerney) youngest sibling was John who was Packie's father and the second youngest was Patrick Joseph.

Also I am in touch with Mary O'Mara Hayes of Feakle.

You mentioned Anne Casey.  Two of my cousins travelled to Drumcharley and met up with Packie and were taken around by Anne Casey.  I was told that she is not very well.

Also I have been in Contact with Tom McInerney from Ridgefield Connecticut USA (not that far from Newtown).

Also my uncle married a New Zealander also two of his sons married New Zealanders.  I am sure they (and I) would like to get in touch with them.

I have quite a lot of family info and would like to share with you.  (Also a lot of leaves to be shaken from the tree)

     Best wishes

    Hi lulu,

You are Lena's grandaughter?????? omg i have been looking under every rock to find out what happened to Mary, Lena and Daniel, the are they last two in the family that i have been able to find nothing on!!!! I am Patrick Joseph McInerney's granddaughter so Lena was my mothers Aunty, my grandfather left Ireland in 1906 as a DeLasailan brother, he first went to South Africa and later on to Australia. I have found records that he returned home in 1925 after his father John died, he left Delasilan order in 1932 and married my grandmother in 1935. We know nothing about the family because Mum said that back then adults didnt speak about their lives. Mum's name is Margaret after the eldest girl and her older sister's name is Delia, there is one more sister Geraldiane who was named after my grandmothers father Jeremiah Lehane who was from Co Cork. I would love to hear from you !!!!!

    Regards

Sue your third cousin or something like that.... PS i have met Kevin from the Denis McInerney side

  • There was no Thomas in Ellen's family, there was Mary, Patrick (who must have died as a baby), Margaret, Delia, Daniel, Ellen (also known as Lena), Patrick (my grandfather) and John

  • Hi Louise,

Your last post,  I do not have any details of a Thomas at all.

With Anne Casey, presume Anne Liston was born in about 1921.  You mentioned that Joe had died, presumably quite early in their marriage.

You mentioned a photo found around the sale at Drumcharley.  Who is John and Honoria Mcinerney?  Do you know anything re the sale? timing etc

Would like to see the photo.  My email address is kevin_gail_mcinerney@hotmail.com

Will share the info I have on the families.

  • Hi Louise,

just thought i would let you know that Kevin and I found each other through the internet and our family history research, his arm on the McInerney's ended up in Australia long before our arm. We have managed to trace to James McInerney who seemed to have arrived in Drumcharley some time between 1819 and 1826. James was the father of Dan and Denis, Kevin comes from Denis' arm and you and I come from Dan. Dan was John McInerney's father and your's and my Great Great Grandfather.

    Regards

    Sue

  • Hi Sue, Kevin and Louise:

So glad to see all the new connections being made!!!  This is great.

I just wanted to add to Kevin's query about receiving Civil Births, Marriages and Deaths, that these are all available online now through www.irishgenealogy.ie.  However, I believe that the older (earlier) Births for Tulla do not have a group ID.  If an entry does not have this group ID, it has to be ordered throug the General Register Office.  This can be done at a cost of €4.00.  The form to order is available through this link:

https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/images/content/GRO_Documents/Form_for_DAH…; Many thanks to Claire Santry for this link.

There is a burial register which has been transcribed as an excel spreadsheet and look-ups are done through Tulla XO.

If you need further clarification or information, please don't hesitate to contact us at:  tulla@irelandxo.com.

    All the best,

    Jane
