Many thanks ColCaff for your prompt reply.

I have checked the RootsIreland website and none of the ten baptism records appears  to be my John Halloran! I did a search in the same site for John's marriage date = 7 February 1837 but it did not show up. This marriage date I received years ago from the Clare Heritage Centre.

I checked the RootsIreland site for four of John's children's baptism records but none showed up! For example I looked for the baptism records of Sally O'Halloran - 21 January 1857 - but no luck.

Thanks for your tip about "Unassisted Passengers". I too have found the 1860 entry for John on the Lightning. This is where I came up with the 1820 date of birth for John as the passenger list says he was 40 in 1860. So I am unable to confirm either date!!!

Thanks again for your help.

  • RootsIreland only recently started to add records for Co. Clare so only have about 7 RC parishes currently available on their system, and only baptism records so far, no marriages. Do you know which area or parish your Halloran family lived ?

Edit : I see on another post that Moymore townland and Tulla parish are mentioned. This does not seem to be one currently included on RootsIreland. Baptism and marriage records for the parish are noted by various sources (Ryan's, John Grenham/Irish Times, NLI Index) as going back to 1819.

Moymore townland(*) is less than 5km to the west of the town of Tulla, and within Tulla Catholic and civil parish. see this OSI Map  (c1837 - townland borders are in red, scroll to the right to locate Tulla town) There was another chapel in the parish at Drumcharley, but the one in Tulla town would be much closer to this Moymore townland.

*There is another Moymore townland in Co. Clare, and this is located to the north of Ennis in Ruan civil parish and part of 'Dysart & Ruan' RC parish.

  • Hello Jane

So sorry for being quiet for so long. Any news at all? No news of John O'Halloran this end. Where did he get to? I am pretty sure I have found his Bridget (born McGrath). My searching says she died Bridget Walsh. Bye for now. Laurie

  • My apologies too to shanew147 and my thanks for the info and time spent tracing John O'H. Clare Heritage Centre gave me he 1837 marriage date and place (Tulla) for John O'H and his marriage to Bridget Mc'Grath. I have managed to "trace" her. Because I have a daughter we named  Catherine I have been hunting for John and Bridget's Catherine! With some succes but her man William Collins has disappeared on me !!! Best wishes. Laurie

  • Hi Laurie:

No problem.  It is nice to hear from you.  I'm glad that you have made some progress.  You may be aware that the National Library of Ireland has most of the parish registers online through their website and Tulla's registers are included.

The link for ease of reference is:  http://www.nli.ie/en/parish-register.aspx.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to email us here at Tulla.

    Kind regards,

    Jane.
