Trying to locate historical records for this married couple (Cornelius Dwyer Johanna Cleary) from Tipperary. They were born in the 1780's married in Tipperary (do not know parish) and came to Australia. We have no idea if they were convicts or not. They appear in Australia sometime in the 1840's.  We have found a record for a Cornelius Dwyer married to a Judith Cleary in Tipperary around 1819 but this may not be them. Any advice would be helpful.

  • Dear Neil:

Do you think that there is a Tulla connection?  I don't see that anywhere in your post.  There were Dwyers in Tulla.  I will look through the registers in the next week if you like.  Please let me know.

    Kind regards,

    Jane.

  • Hi Jane

No, this branch of family (Dwyer) were definitely from Tipperary.  But we are also trying to trace Daly and Moloney ancestors who were from Tulla area, but we have not identified the names of the original Irish born representatives of those lines yet, still working on early Australian records which are confusing and pathchy.

  • Dear Neil:

Ok.  If you find out any first names for the Daly and Moloney families from Tulla, please let me know as I will have a look for you.  Both surnames are in the parish registers here.

Happy New Year to you and the very best of luck with your research!

    Kind regards,

    Jane.

  • Hi

My O'Dwyer/Dwyer that I know of came from Waterford, however I understand that it is not far from Tipperary - my GGGrandmother was Alice Dwyer/O'Dwyer  born c1846 her father was John Dwyer.

Alice married James Power in Tramore Waterford -  Alice at the time of her marriage lived at Crobally,  one of their children was Bridget Power born Waterford,  who came to Australia, however Alice and James Power had another daughter -  Ann Power born Waterford who married James Brown,  in the 1911 Census they lived in Market Street, Tramore -

Also, John Power b 1887 Waterford my Grandfather married Josephine Cleary b Barrack Street, Waterford. - John and Josephine Power married in Waterford and  came to Brisbane Australia in 1919

Perhaps there is a connection here somewhere - Dwyer/O'Dwyer, Cleary and Brown

  • Hi Neil:

I came across a Dennis Molony who married a Bridget Daly.

They had a family born in Tulla in the 1819-1836 era.  Let me know if this is any good to you.

    Kind regards,

    Jane.
