My name is Lyn Read from Esk Queensland Australia

I am trying to find information on my great grandmother Mary Conway & Family from Tulla. ..Mary was born about 1833, assisted migrant to Melbourne Australia arriving in 1854. . Mary  was indentured as a domestic for 6 months in Beechworth. .Mary married Chrisitan Haeffner on 24-121854 Beechwiortn Victoria . Mary died in 1893, buried Tallangatta cemetery Victoria

.Mary father Thomas was stone mason died Tulla workhouse 31-12-1864 age 64 he was a widower.

Mary's mother Honora Conway (nee Noonan ) we can find no inforamation at all,

Information I am trying to find re Mary is as follows; her parents, where she was living when she immigrated, was she an inmate in the work house,.and anything else that is possible to find, as Marys' life in Ireland we know nothing

We know Mary had a sister Catrherine who was baptised in Catholic church Tulla 3-9-1829.  Were there other siblings beside Mary & Catherine  if so what were their names?  Did they survive to adulthood,  Catherine married John Sherry and moved to Beechworth  Victoria Australia 1857.

Any information would be appreciated

Lyn

  • Hi Lyn:

I believe that you have posted this message before.

Unfortunately, there are no workhouse records for Tulla Workhouse as all records were destroyed during the War of Independence.

However, there were other Noonan and Conway families in the area, and I'm wondering if it's worth researching them to try to find any connection.

If you are interested in pursuing this angle, let me know, and I will try to find the relevant information for you.  You can email me at:  tulla@irelandxo.com

    Kind regards,

    Jane.
