Hello, I am researching Daniel and Michael Desmond, could be brothers. They both joined the 50th Regiment of Foot (British, headquarters Chatham), recruted in Cork.

Daniel enlisted on 16/04/1822 aged 18 years, born approximately 1804 in Ahada Parish, County Cork. Catholic religon. Served in West and East Indies and Australia. Discharged in 1842. Did not stay in Australia, but not known where he went.

Michael enlisted on 10/04/1822 aged 25 years, born approximately 1797 in County Cork. Parish not known. Catholic religon. Served in the West Indies and Australia. Stayed in Australia and died 1875.

I have no information on parents.

The only other information I have is, that Michael married Mary Ann Mahar (Meagher) and on her death certificate it states that they were married in Tipperary in 1831. The names of their children may give a clue to the parents names. Their names are from eldest first:- Ellen Mary, Frances, Mary Ann, John, Michael, Edward, Margaret Jane, Thomas James, Daniel.

I'm hoping there may be a thread of information here to find baptismal records or if Daniel went back to Ireland and married or maybe a death record.

If you want any of the documents, please let me know.

Much appreciated,

Regards, Christine Muldrock
