Hi

I'm trying to trace any information on my G'G'Mother Mary Foley. Mary married William Doherty from Coolacussane in 1872 in the parish of Donaskeigh. Mary was born c.1852 and her fathers name was Michael. Any information on Mary or William would be of great help.

Thanks in advance.

I went to www.familysearch.org and looked for Doherty children born to William Doherty and Mary Foley. Two records came up. There was a male child born 12/24/1872 and a John born 3/9/1874. In both cases the father was shown as William Dougherty. I also located the 1901 and 1911 census records for the family. the surname was Doherty. I also found the civil marriage index record for William and Mary. If you want a copy of this record, you can contact the GRO www.groireland.ie  fill out the form and provide the year, registration district (Cashel) and the volume and page number ( 3 and 477). A copy costs around 4 euros. It will show the names of the father's of the bride and groom and where the bride and groom were living before the marriage. By the way, you can ignore the other male names on the index record. They were for other marriages recorded on the same page.

  • Morning Roger.

Many thanks for your quick reply and all the effort and information you supplied. I have the majority of this work done and have got as far as (with the help of Fr.Egan P.P Knockavilla) the baptism of William on 8/6/1838. So I'm looking now for any info on John Doherty whom I found in the 1850 Griffith Val. Mary is harder to find as according to Fr Egan there is no record of her baptism or her Dad, Michael.  Fr Egan thinks William and Mary were married in the church at Ruan near Ballintemple cemetery.

Fr Egan also says that William was from Lacken(parents John Doherty/Alice Navin) also in the Parish of Donaskeigh and his Godparents were John Austin and Mary Navin. I have tried all the ususal research sites and have hit a brick wall.

    Thanks again.

I looked at the 1833 Tithe Applotment listings for Kilpatrick civil parish. I did not locate a Doherty in Coolacussane but did locate two Dohertys in Coolbaun townland which is just to the northwest of Coolacussane (spelled Coolbawn in the Tithes). There was a William (spelled Dohorty) and a Patrick Doherty. http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/reels/tab//004625685/004625685_00438.pdf
